Seminars  -  Stage2

After completing Stage 1, those who wish to proceed further can attend Level 1 seminars for -

Stage 2:  Financial Modelling and Spreadsheet Programming
Level 1: Six 1-hour sessions
;
Level 2: Six 1-hour sessions
;
Level 3: Six 1-hour sessions

The financial modelling aspect of this course will teach students how to develop for any business efficient and practical financial models that are functional with and without associated programming.

It will use the 12 calculation models, half a dozen rates environment models, a dozen risk management financial models and another dozen spreadsheet models.

Thus after completing the six sessions at level 1, the students should begin to design simple financial models of their own.

The spreadsheet programming aspect of this course will use various working examples from nearly 16,000 lines of programming code in Excel 4/5 macro and VBA to teach students efficient and practical programming techniques.

This course is designed for those who have little or no experience of programming in any language; it is a sub-set of the financial systems design and development course.

However, in order to learn they should be prepared to spend time on designing and writing simple programs after completing the six sessions at level 1.

By using various working examples, our objective is to give the students practical knowledge and understanding of what is involved in writing a spreadsheet system.

Depending on their enthusiasm, interest and desire to learn, some students of this course might pick up in three months programming techniques that someone with two or three years’ experience might have.

Thus by the end of stage 2 (18 sessions of 1-hour duration) an average student should be able to write programs that work interactively with spreadsheets, for example, checking, opening and closing files, reading and entering data on to a spreadsheet in specific areas, and moving data to and from different spreadsheets.

The students should also have gained sufficient working knowledge of financial models to design and develop financial spreadsheet models of their own, as required in their jobs by their current or future employers.

Upon completion of this course, most students should be able to write a simple application program that will do a specific job, involving several spreadsheets.

After completing Stage 2:  Financial Modelling and Spreadsheet Programming

Note:  After Stage 2, most people would only need to do Stage 3a, 3b or 3c - not all of them.
